A DIFFERENT KIND OF “BRAND” FOR AN ICONIC CANADIAN CATTLE RANCH

INDUSTRY Ranch/Tourism/Recreation

CLIENT Douglas Lake Ranch

YEAR 03/2018

  • Douglas Lake Ranch, boasting expansive operations across numerous historic ranches, posed a unique challenge: the integration of its wide-ranging offerings, from cattle ranching to fly fishing resorts, under one cohesive digital umbrella. The goal was evident: to design a website that aptly and elegantly showcases the rich mosaic of the Ranch's history, services, and products.

  • Preserving the profound historical significance of Douglas Lake Ranch while simultaneously delivering a user-friendly interface for a diverse audience was a daunting task. The need to cater to varied stakeholder priorities added complexity to our design decisions, especially considering the array of divisions the platform intended to represent. Our answer was a meticulously structured design, facilitating smooth transitions between segments, thereby being as intuitive for a historian exploring the ranch's heritage as for a vacationer planning a fly fishing weekend.

  • Website: A comprehensive, yet intuitively integrated platform that effortlessly merges the ranch's historical narrative with its multifaceted offerings. This website not only highlights the intricate details of destinations and products but also incorporates web forms customized for reservations, inquiries, and job applications.

Icon Design: For tourism and recreational spots, we designed distinctive icons that capture the spirit and essence of each facet, streamlining navigation and enhancing user comprehension.

Brand Assets: Our partnership with Douglas Lake Ranch extended beyond the website, encompassing the creation of diverse brand assets: 1) Logos: Tailored for individual brands, each logo was crafted to possess its distinct identity, all the while echoing the main brand's ethos. 2) Collaterals: Ranging from brochures that distill the essence of Douglas Lake Ranch to email signatures, business cards, and signage - every piece was designed with a nod to both the ranch's storied past and its contemporary services. 3) Apparel: A variety of attire pieces were designed both for staff wear and for retail at the General Store and Gift Shop, serving dual purposes of brand representation and revenue generation.

  • Through this project, Douglas Lake Ranch was reinvented not merely as a business with diverse facets but was narrated as a story, with the website as the central medium.
